Alvega a minha aldeia.
Aritium, Al-Rega, Alvega...
As origens históricas de Alvega parecem remontar à época das ocupações fenícias e gregas, tendo sido encontrados vestígios dessas civilizações numa zona chamada Barca de Bandos, na confluência da Ribeira da Lampreia com o Rio Tejo.
Posteriormente, com a conquista romana, cerca de 130 a. C., este local tornou-se na importante cidade de Ayre, ou Aritium, onde existia um importante porto fluvial e por onde passava a estratégica via militar que ligava Lisboa a Mérida.
A actual designação da freguesia -Alvega- deriva do topónimo Al-Rega, atribuído pelos Árabes durante o seu domínio, período em que esta terá sido uma populosa cidade.
